How to Optimize your Work from Home Space

  1.  Prop your computer screen up on a box, books, or computer stand so that the top line that you are reading on your screen is at eye level or slightly below. If you do not have a separate keyboard, set your laptop up so your elbows are at 90 degrees (see point #4). Then tilt your computer screen back slightly.
  2. Place a pillow or rolled up towel at the small of your back to provide support and an upright posture and neutral spinal curvature. Ensure your ears are in line with your shoulders and your head is not forward, and your back is not slouched.
  3. Ensure your chair is at the right height – hips should be at 90 degrees or more to the chair with your feet flat on the ground. If your feet are not on the ground, place a box or stool under your feet for support. If your chair is too low or desk is too high, sit on a pillow.
  4. Your elbows should be at 90 degrees to your chair and your keyboard should also be at this height. If it is not, sit on a pillow or raise your chair to allow for this.
  5. Take frequent breaks to check your posture, walk around, get some fresh air 🙂
  6. Every so often, try working standing up to relieve the pressure on your low back. You can do this by propping up your screen even more, working from your kitchen counter, etc.
  7. Avoid working from the couch!
